Norway v Spain Preview

Norway v Spain Preview

Table of Contents

Norway welcome Spain to the Ullevall Stadion in Oslo on Sunday for their Euro 2024 Qualifying Group A clash.

It’s second against third in the group, with just two points separating them. Only the top two from the group are guaranteed a place in next summer’s competition, so that makes this a key clash in both nations’ efforts to get there.

Here, we’ll preview this qualifying match up in the hopes we can find you some winning bets to make this international break a profitable one.

Expect goals

After a hard fought match with Scotland in midweek, Spain were able to come away 2-0 victors to avenge their earlier shock defeat at Hampden. They were fortunate not to go a goal down in the game after Scott McTominay scored a spectacular free kick which was disallowed for another Scottish player being in an offside position.

Despite that, the Spanish dominated and capitalised on Scotland’s mistakes to win comfortably in the end. They’re the highest scoring team in the group, with 18 goals from just five games so far in qualifying. Another attacking performance like Thursday should see the net bulge on multiple occasions in this game.

Pole position

Spain’s midweek win puts them in pole position to win the group, but they also did Norway a massive favour in the process. The Norwegians are chasing the second qualifying spot, but in order to do that, they need to maintain a 100% record in the rest of their qualifying campaign, starting with this game. That seems incredibly unlikely now though, as Spain have their sights set on top spot.

Alvaro Morata was on target again to make it four goals in four qualifying games for Spain. The Atletico Madrid forward is expected to lead the line again for the visitors and fire them on to victory. Don’t expect the hosts to go down without a fight though. They know the significance of this game and the need to win it.

All hopes with Haaland

The best hope that the hosts have is to get Erling Haaland into the game as much as possible. The Manchester City striker is among the top scorers in qualifying so far with six goals in as many games for his country. Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard could be the key to unlocking the Spain defence, which has only conceded three goals so far in the group.

That Spanish defence has had some shaky moments however, especially in their two meetings with Scotland, so Norway will be confident they can cause some problems for their visitors. Haaland landed himself a brace in the midweek 4-0 win over Cyprus, so he’ll be full of confidence heading into this match up and will want to prove a point against the group favourites. With everything on the line, we’re expecting a hugely entertaining game in Oslo on Sunday night.
