Liverpool welcome Arsenal to Anfield in the Premier League’s late Saturday afternoon kick off.
The Reds currently sit a single point behind The Gunners in the race for the Premier League title. However, things are so tight that the two clubs could be coming into this chasing Aston Villa, if the midlands club are successful in their Friday night game against bottom of the league Sheffield United.
That will make this a must win for both sides if they are to have any hope of taking advantage of Manchester City’s uncharacteristic poor form so far this campaign. Creating a decent gap now could make all the difference come May 2024.
Here, we’ll preview this titanic Premier League clash in the hopes we can find you some winning bets.
Fresh legs
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side will come into this hugely important game with fresh legs, having not played since their 2-0 win over Brighton last weekend. Liverpool, on the other hand, found themselves in League Cup action in midweek as they welcomed West Ham to Anfield in the quarter-finals.
It proved to be a fruitful affair however, as a much-changed Reds side ran out 5-1 winners to progress in the competition and face Fulham in the semi-finals. Being able to rest some of his most important players will have brought some relief to manager Jurgen Klopp.
Unwanted record
Despite reinventing themselves as title challengers under Arteta’s reign, the fact still remains that Arsenal have historically struggled on their visits to Anfield. So much so in fact, that they haven’t won a game there since September 2012, when Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla secured a 2-0 win. The Gunners have also struggled on the road this campaign, which brings further doubt they can get all three points.
Conversely, Liverpool’s home form has been immense this season, having not been beaten at Anfield as yet and enjoying a perfect run at home up until the 0-0 draw with Manchester United last weekend. The win against West Ham will have boosted their confidence also as they head into this massively important match up.
Improving defences
Heading into this one, both teams have conceded a total of 15 goals in the league this campaign, which is the joint least in the entire division – Manchester City are closest with 20 goals conceded up to this point. That shows that both clubs have significantly improved their defences, but they do have moments of weakness from time to time.
This one will be decided by the attackers on the field. Liverpool will always have a chance when Mo Salah is on the pitch and he has many able deputies in attack with him in the form of Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo. Arsenal have their own threats and Bakoyo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah are all ones to watch in this fascinating encounter.
